It took Bill Dow, Billings MT, and Ted Siebert, Woodstock, IL, approximately one week (roughly 100 man hours) to build this magnificent sand sculpture that is currently
on display at Greene Square Park.
The theme is FLOODSTOCK, Cedar River 2009, built as part of RIVERenaissance, to help draw attention to the fundraising activities to benefit the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation for flood relief.
A huge pile of sand was hauled in and packed down hard by machine packers. Next the sculpting began. Once the work was complete it was sealed with a special mixture similar to glue to make a protective crust.
I told Dow that it he must be an artist in order to carve a sculpture like this …the look he gave me was priceless.

Dow works for Ted Siebert, owner of The Sand Sculpture Company.
