Four young, talented men from Cedar Rapids, IA, released their new album, “Tidal Waves & Hollow Graves” at their CD Release Concert last night at the Scottish Rite Auditorium. Their music is pop rock with a positive undertone, lively and fun, that keeps the audience hopping.
happygolovely was formed in the spring of 2007, and in 2008, members made the decision to pursue music as a life choice. Prior to Tidal Waves & Hollow Graves, happygolovely released their Love Divine EP in December 2008.
Band members include:
· Ben Garrett, lead vocals, piano, and guitar, age 18, a freshman at North Central University in Minneapolis, MN, studying Music Production. He sometimes travels with a worship team from North Central, and was formerly on staff at Stonebridge Church(formerly Cedar Hills Evangelical Free Church) in Cedar Rapids, as a worship team leader.
Layne Sheetz, lead guitar, background vocals, age 20, a junior at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, studying English and Theater. Layne sometimes runs sound and lights at Cedar Hills Community Church in Cedar Rapids.
Landon Sheetz, drums, percussion, keyboards, age 17, a junior at Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids. He plays varsity football for Jefferson as well as Track and Field. He also plays drums for worship at Cedar Hills Community Church some Sundays and attends their youth group.
Brent Scheil, bass, age 19, a freshman at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids studying Telecommunications. He was formerly part of the youth worship team at Stonebridge Church where his father, Randy Scheil, is the pastor.
happygolovely toured the Midwest during 2009, playing shows in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, South Dakota, Tennessee, Nebraska, and Iowa. They played Lifest in Oshkosh, WI, Bash on the Farm in Garner, IA, and won the Talent Search at Lifelight in Sioux Falls, SD. This earned them a trip to Nashville to play a showcase for Word Records.
Their Love Divine EP was recorded and produced locally by the band and with the help of Pastor Phil Christensen at Stonebridge Church. They recorded Tidal Waves and Hollow Graves in Lincoln, NE, at CODA Record House. It was produced by Riley Friesen and engineered by Andrew Stoner, both of the band Staggerford.
Ally Marie opened for happygolovely at last night’s concert. A very talented young lady, she sang three acoustic songs that she had written and plans to release a CD within the next two months.
Also opening for happygolovely was the band Staggerford from Lincoln, NE. The four band members in Staggerford are Riley Friesen, Anthony Troester, Ryan Stoner, and Andrew Stoner. As mentioned above, Andrew Stoner and Riley Friesen engineered and produced Tidal Waves and Shallow Graves album for happygolovely.
